I’m Maxwell Matewere, a human rights advocate and anti–human trafficking expert with more than 25 years on the frontlines of confronting modern slavery, criminal networks, and systemic exploitation. My work has taken me into courtrooms, border routes, orphanages, labor camps, and survivor shelters—where the realities of trafficking are raw, complex, and deeply human.

Maxwell Matewere is an internationally recognized human rights advocate, legal expert, and anti-human trafficking leader with nearly three decades of experience combating transnational crime, modern slavery, and systemic exploitation.
As the founder of Eye of the Child and the Malawi Network Against Trafficking, Maxwell has worked alongside governments, United Nations agencies, NGOs, and communities to rescue victims, reform laws, and dismantle trafficking operations—often at great personal risk.
Recognized globally for his courage and impact, Maxwell has been honored by the U.S. Department of State as a Global Hero on Trafficking in Persons and continues to challenge powerful systems that profit from human abuse.
